About the role
The Technology branch supports National Archives in meeting its vision and achieving its strategic goals, through the provision of ICT services, technology, infrastructure, software, cybersecurity and the governance of its information and data assets. It is also responsible for assisting Australian Government agencies to fulfil the National Archives’ data and information management requirements.
The ICT Infrastructure section is responsible for providing advice to National Archives’ management on the efficient and effective use of technology and to enable National Archives staff through the provision and support of end user devices. The section also supports infrastructure relocation projects and is responsible for providing data storage infrastructure and managing its availability and capacity to meet business demands.
National Archives Desktop Services team is seeking to fill an ongoing Desktop Engineer role in Canberra. A merit list will be created which may be used to fill ongoing positions.
Under general supervision:
- Deploy and manage Windows devices using Intune and the organisation’s Standard Operating Environment (SOE) supporting routine provisioning and lifecycle management activities.
- Maintain endpoint configuration, compliance and security controls, including Intune policies, BitLocker, Defender and associated operational standards.
- Assist with packaging and deploying applications, updates and security patches in line with established operational and security procedures.
- Act as an escalation point for the Service Desk and respond to incidents and service requests, providing quality technical troubleshooting and escalating appropriately to meet service delivery expectations.
- Contribute to operational documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures, knowledge articles and technical guides.
- Work collaboratively within the Desktop and broader ICT teams to support consistent service delivery, change management processes and organisational outcomes.
- Apply the principles of APS Values, Code of Conduct, workplace diversity principles, work health and safety and participative management within a work and team environment.
- Promote and apply National Archives’ Vision, Mission and Commitments as expressed in in Strategy 2025–2030: Evolving National Archives and Our Values.
Skills & Experience
- Experience in an IT support role within an enterprise environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Intune, Microsoft 365 and Entra ID.
- Basic understanding of application deployment and PowerShell.

To be eligible for the role you must be an Australian citizen. If you are selected, you will be required to successfully undergo a pre-employment check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a Baseline security clearance with the ability to obtain NV2 if required.
