The Access and Public Engagement Branch is the public face of National Archives of Australia (National Archives), delivering research services, examination for the release of records, exhibition, education and public programs, marketing and communications. All programs and activities support our key role of providing an accessible, visible and interpreted national archival collection.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement team is responsible for the strategic and operational implementation of National Archives’ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander initiatives. The team works with business areas across the organisation to support collection management, agency engagement and access and public engagement activities onsite and online. The goal is to enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to connect to and access the national archival collection and archival services in culturally appropriate ways.
National Archives of Australia is seeking an experienced person who has solid applied knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culture and issues affecting peoples in regional and remote areas.
The Director, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Services is responsible for the strategic and operational implementation of National Archives' Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander initiatives.
The successful candidate will develop, deliver and implement initiatives and programs to enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to connect to and access the national archival collection, and services; and work with business areas across the organisation on related functions, policies and activities.
Requirement: This is an identified position has a strong involvement in issues relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Identified positions are jobs that are open to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians who have:
- an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people; and
- the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Indigenous communities.
Qualifications: Relevant tertiary qualifications, experience in administration and project management, archives or cultural heritage collection related fields and/or membership or eligibility for membership of relevant professional associations are highly desirable, but not necessary.
Eligibility: Applicants must be Australian citizens and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance to Negative Vetting 1.
