The People & Culture Section is responsible for developing and implementing policies and strategies to ensure the National Archives' workforce and workplace has the tools and capabilities to achieve our key roles and responsibilities. The section administers employment arrangements under the National Archives Enterprise Agreement and key services including payroll, recruitment and performance management. The section also oversees work health and safety arrangements, workforce planning and the delivery of professional development opportunities and frameworks.

In this role, you'll work alongside dedicated professionals to deliver comprehensive HR services that enable our teams to preserve and share Australia's documentary heritage. You'll contribute to creating an inclusive workplace where every team member can thrive and contribute their unique skills and perspectives.

Under broad direction, the Assistant Director, People Operations will:

  • Provide accurate and timely advice to internal and external stakeholders by interpreting the Enterprise Agreement, legislation, industrial instruments and relevant policies.
  • Develop innovative solutions to a broad spectrum of HR matters in an evolving employment framework.
  • Ensure the application of employment frameworks is lawful, consistent and supports organisational integrity.
  • Analyse and interpret Commonwealth legislation, governance and guiding principles.

Under broad direction, the Assistant Director, Capability and Inclusion will:

  • Maintain and uplift systems, practices, tools and guidance to support learning and capability solutions to support NAA deliver its strategic plan.
  • Apply specialist knowledge of the APS capability frameworks to develop and deliver on learning and development plans and programs.
  • Provide strategic direction on workforce capability, leadership development and talent management.
  • Lead initiatives that strengthen workplace culture, inclusion and diversity.

Under broad direction, the Assistant Director, Wellbeing and Employee Relations will:

  • Provide expert advice and guidance on workplace grievances, performance and conduct matters.
  • Support and develop strategic early intervention initiatives and rehabilitation management.
  • Convey messages effectively and sensitively across multiple audiences, including the Senior Executive.
  • Ensure frameworks, reporting and actions support a respectful and safe work environment.

Under broad direction, the Human Resource Business Partner will specifically:

  • Provide expert advice and recommend strategic directions to assist with planning and managing our people capacity, capability and readiness.
  • Prepare complex submissions and reports for management to support informed decision-making.
  • Work in close partnership with colleagues and stakeholders across NAA to ensure our efforts are fit for purpose and impactful.

Eligibility:  Applicants must be Australian citizens and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance to Baseline Level.
