The Technology branch supports the National Archives in meeting its vision and reaching its strategic goals through services, technology, infrastructure, software, security and governance of its information assets to secure and protect against cyber security threats. The Applications Integration section is responsible for the development, integration and support of the National Archives collection management and digital presence applications. We work closely with business areas and I&T sections to deliver products and services.
The Assistant Director, Applications Development plays a strategic and technical leadership role in modernising the National Archives’ application ecosystem. As part of the Applications Integration Section, this position leads the development of secure, scalable, and interoperable systems that support digital preservation and citizen access. The role drives innovation through cloud-native architectures, DevOps practices, and reusable integration patterns, contributing directly to the agency’s transformation goals under the Strategy 2025–2030. The Assistant Director fosters a collaborative team culture, mentors’ developers, and ensures alignment between technical solutions and business needs.
Qualifications or demonstrated high level technical application development and knowledge of the following areas would be desirable:
- Programming and frameworks such as – .NET Core, ASP .Net MVC, C#, JavaScript, Node.js;
- Integration of Web services, Search, APIs, cloud services and/or COTS software;
- Database integrations (SQL, PostgreSQL);
- Source control tools (DevOps, TFS and code repositories);
- Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, or equivalent field.
Eligibility: Applicants must be Australian citizens and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance to Baseline Level.
