About the role
The Projects & Engagement Officer, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Services is responsible for implementing National Archives' Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander strategic and operational initiatives
The successful candidate will develop, deliver and implement projects and programs of work engaging with and enabling Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to connect to and access the national archival collection and services, and will work with external stakeholders, and with business areas across the organisation on related functions, policies and activities.
Under limited direction the main duties of the role are to:
- Undertake project work, planning and reporting, conduct research, analyse and assist with the development, implementation and review of policies, procedures, training material and Memoranda that relate to services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Prepare professional advice on issues relating to the provision of National Archives' services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- Assist in the development, preparation and maintenance of finding aids and related material, such as brochures, fact sheets, indexes, guides and online content that relate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Represent the National Archives culturally appropriately in engagements, forums and meetings involving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, groups, and organisations.
- Develop and maintain relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders based on mutual trust, respect and consideration of culture and cultural nuances for respective regions including metropolitan, regional, and remote areas.
- Apply the principles of APS Values, Code of Conduct, workplace diversity, work health and safety and participative management within a work and team environment.
- Promote and apply the National Archives’ Vision, Mission and Commitments as expressed in Strategy 2025–2030: Evolving National Archives and Our Values
The successful applicant must have significant cultural knowledge and solid applied understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in remote communities, and demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with peoples where English may not be the first, second or third language.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the role you must be an Australian citizen. If you are selected, you will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a NV1 clearance level.
