About the role
The Transformation Office has been established to lead work on business improvements and new business initiatives. The Transformation Office is responsible for whole of agency projects and initiatives that form part of National Archives transformation agenda, including oversight of the Defend the Past, Protect the Future program, the Digital First program, and Digital Archives Innovation and Research.
In April 2023, the Government announced additional funding to support a digital uplift, and to allow National Archives to respond to legacy technology issues. The Digital First Program was formed to deliver new or enhanced capabilities within 3 core focus areas:
- Access: Upgrade external facing access engagement technology platforms
- Content: Uplift capability to enable effective digitisation of at-risk and high priority
- Infrastructure: Progress towards contemporary technology standards, and work to modernise data storage solutions.
The Digital Archives Innovation & Research section as a vacancy for EL1 Project Manager to manage the Digital Archiving Service Design project, part of the Digital First program.
Our ideal candidates will have proven experience in project management, demonstrate interpersonal skills to foster and promote National Archives values, a highly developed written and oral communication skills, mentoring support to junior staff, ability to negotiate and problem solve. Suitable applicants may be considered for future similar roles at National Archives.
Under broad direction, the main duties of the role are to:
- Implement and lead project management practices to support iterative/agile working.
- Conceiving, maintaining and communicating a vision of the project’s outcomes and associated benefits
- Provide strategic advice to senior management and stakeholders as well as leading and assuming accountability for projects that have strategic or operational significance
- Building and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with a broad range of stakeholders including partnering on design and requirements gathering
- Leading project delivery, including but not limited to:
- Agreeing business requirements, and translation of requirements into project plans
- Monitoring and reviewing project scope, costs, budgets, schedule and expected benefits
- Scheduling project resources, inter-dependencies and project risk
- Undertaking procurement, contract and vendor management responsibilities
- Supporting a framework for implementing business initiatives, or change
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and best practices in project management and governance
- Apply the principles of APS Values, Code of Conduct, workplace diversity principles, work health and safety and participative management within a work and team environment.
- Promote and apply the National Archives’ Vision, Mission and Commitments as expressed in Strategy 2025-2030: Evolving National Archives and Our Values
Eligibility
To be eligible for the role you must be an Australian citizen. If you are selected, you will be required to successfully undergo a pre-employment check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a Baseline clearance level.
