The Corporate Services Branch oversees the efficient, effective and ethical management of the National Archives’ resources. This is done in accordance with the Commonwealth’s financial, procurement, employment, security and property legislative and policy frameworks. The Branch supports the workforce, facilities and culture it requires to deliver its strategic priorities and remain sustainable.

The Finance and Procurement section is responsible for the provision of high quality, timely and accurate financial and procurement advice and services to the National Archives while ensuring it meets its legislative and compliance financial framework obligations.

This recruitment process will be used to fill two immediate EL 1 vacancies within the Finance and Procurement section:

  • Financial Accountant (Fulltime, Ongoing)
  • Management Accountant (Fulltime, Ongoing)

Under broad direction, the main duties of the role are to:

  • Supervise the daily operations of the Finance Accounting & Operations Unit / Management Accounting Unit to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of the core financial functions, including, but not limited to:
    • Efficient and accurate services in accounts payable, accounts receivable, travel and credit card administration.
    • Internal and external financial and regulatory reporting, including Senate enquiries, CBMS requirements and tax returns.
    • Preparation of the annual financial statements and management of the ANAO audit process.
    • Budget and forecast development, project financial reports, performance analysis.
  • Provide strategic advice and guidance in financial management to support business operations and organisational objectives, including the implementation of policy and tools to support key internal stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain a robust internal control environment around financial processes and systems to safeguard the resources of the National Archives and the integrity of its financial records.
  • Lead and manage a small team and invest in staff development to build long-term capability in the finance functions.
  • Demonstrate and encourage innovation to deliver continuous business improvement in financial systems and processes.
  • Build and maintain effective, professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide support to the Chief Financial Officer as and when required.
  • Promote and apply the APS and National Archives values and contemporary people management principles and practices in diversity, workplace health and safety and participative management.
  • Implement, promote and apply the National Archives’ Vision, Mission and Commitments as expressed in Our Values and Strategy 2030.

Note: The list above represents the full range of financial and management accounting duties. Applicants will be assessed against either set of duties, or both, depending on the operational needs at the time of engagement. Applicants rated 'suitable' for the role will be placed on a merit list.

Qualifications/experience

  • Essential: CPA/CA qualified, or working towards, with tertiary qualifications in a related field.
  • Highly desirable: Recent experience in relevant roles in the Australian Public Service.
  • Desirable: Significant experience in CBMS and Technology One systems or similar, or the demonstrated ability to quickly gain expertise in these systems

 

Eligibility

To be eligible for the role you must be an Australian citizen. If you are selected, you will be required to successfully undergo a pre-employment check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a Baseline clearance level.
