About the role

National Archives is applications to fill the role of Assistant Director in the Digital Archives Innovation and Research section. The successful candidate will have significant experience in digital preservation, digital archiving and/or digital collections and strong research and stakeholder engagement skills. This role involves leading research to help National Archives improve its digital archiving capabilities. 

Under broad direction the main duties of the role are to:  

  • Lead activities to research, identify and recommend solutions and improvements in the preservation and management of, and client access to, digital information against a backdrop of continual developments in the field of digital archives and digital recordkeeping.
  • Lead activities to develop staff digital capability including identifying capability gaps and needs and determining appropriate formal and informal delivery mechanisms including communities of practice, training, promoting external opportunities and engagement.
  • Build and maintain effective professional relationships and partnerships with external and internal stakeholders relevant to digital archiving and represent the interest of the National Archives.
  • Work collaboratively within the section and across the National Archives to identify and facilitate stakeholder involvement and build awareness of and support for digital archiving improvements
  • Apply sound project management and policy development principles and critical analysis skills to develop and review policies, processes, procedures and guidelines in relation to the creation, transfer, preservation and management of digital information.
  • Lead and supervise staff as required in the achievement of strategic goals and priorities.
  • Promote and apply the principles of APS Values, Code of Conduct, workplace diversity principles, work health and safety and participative management within a work and team environment.
  • Implement, promote and apply the National Archives’ Vision, Mission and Commitments as expressed in Strategy 2030 and Our Values.

 

Eligibility

To be eligible for the role you must be an Australian citizen. If you are selected, you will be required to successfully undergo a pre-employment check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a Baseline clearance level.
