About the role

The Collection Management Branch is responsible for transferring, storing, preserving, and digitising the National Archives’ collection so it remains accessible for future generations. The Branch develops policies and systems as well as provides services, undertakes research, and implements projects to ensure the care, management, and accessibility of analogue and digital archival records. The Branch is also responsible for identifying information management requirements for Australian Government agencies to ensure Australian Government information assets (records, information, and data) are created, collected, and managed effectively.

The Collection Operations Section is responsible for facilitating the transfer of records from Australian Government agencies, securing and managing the National Archives’ archival collection and its storage environment in the Australian Capital Territory. The section is also responsible for managing storage services and projects, providing lending services, applying Machinery of Government Change, and managing national storage and transfer strategies, plans and programs.

Under limited direction, the main duties of the role are to:

  • Lead and manage the team responsible for delivery of the national program for the transfer of records from Australian Government agencies into National Archives of Australia’s custody or care.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships, liaising with both internal and external stakeholders, including collaborative engagement with Australian Government agencies to support the transfer sections program of work.
  • Develop and implement work plans that provide strategic direction for the transfer team, to achieve organisational objectives in accordance with National Archives’ strategic directions, corporate plan, legislative framework, and other policies.
  • Provide strategic advice and direction in relation to the national transfers program to inform transfer activity and support reporting and engagement activities.
  • Oversee and manage the successful delivery of services and strategic projects with both internal and external stakeholders, within agreed time frames.
  • Promote and apply the APS and National Archives’ values and contemporary people management principles and practices in diversity, work health and safety and participative management.
  • Implement, promote and apply the National Archives’ Vision, Mission and Commitments as expressed in Strategy 2025 – 2030: Evolving National Archives and Our Values.

 

Are you eligible?

To be eligible for the role you must be an Australian citizen. If you are selected, you will be required to successfully undergo a pre-employment check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a Baseline clearance level with the ability to obtain up to a Negative Vetting 2 clearance level.
