About the role

The Collection Management Branch is responsible for transferring, storing, preserving and digitising the National Archives' collection so it remains accessible for future generations. The Branch develops policies and systems as well as provides services, undertakes research, and implements projects to ensure the care, management and accessibility of archival records. The Branch is also responsible for identifying information management requirements for Australian Government agencies to ensure Australian Government information assets (records, information and data) are created, collected and managed effectively.

Digital Archives Preservation & Research (DAPR) is a section within the Collection Management branch responsible for the transfer and preservation of digital archives, working collaboratively across the organisation to improve digital archiving awareness, capability and practice. The DAPR team:

  • undertakes research to understand and uplift National Archives’ digital archiving practice
  • protects and ensures ongoing access to National Archives’ digital collections through preservation activities
  • facilitates the effective transfer of digital records from agencies
  • engages locally and internationally on digital archiving, contributing to internal and external communities of practice.

 

The Senior Project Officer, Digital Archiving will be required to be organised and adaptive to the needs of an evolving team and have a strong foundation in preservation and archiving standards for born digital records. The role requires the ability to apply standards and complex technical dependencies to projects that support the practical implementation and uplift of workflows and processes to support the unique requirements of digital records.

 

Under broad direction, the main duties of the role are:

 

  • Lead and support projects to build digital preservation and archiving workflows and capability both internally and collaboratively across the National Archives.
  • Research, analyse and recommend solutions related to the specialist requirements for transfer, preservation and access to digital records
  • Investigate business processes, problems and opportunities and contribute to business improvements through critical analysis in an emerging area.
  • Assist in the strategic planning, project and policy development for the digital Archives Research and Preservation team.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders to facilitate collaboration and information sharing.
  • Apply the principles of APS Values, Code of Conduct, workplace diversity, work health and safety and participative management within a work and team environment.
  • Promote and apply the National Archives’ Vision, Mission and Commitments as expressed in Strategy 2030 and Our Values.
