About the role

The Collection Management Branch is responsible for transferring, storing, preserving and digitising the National Archives' collection so it remains accessible for future generations. 

The Preservation section is responsible for the preservation and long-term accessibility of the most significant records of the Commonwealth in both physical and digital form. We carry out daily activities and make long term decisions to ensure that the collection will be available years from now regardless of technology.

The National Archives is looking for Film Preservation Digitisation officers and Preservation Metadata officers to undertake duties associated with the preservation digitisation of the audiovisual collection, including identification, examination, repackaging, cataloguing and copying of audiovisual records in accordance with preservation standards.

The position of Film Preservation Digitisation Officer requires excellent attention to detail and a capacity to handle, repackage and store audio-visual items to approved standards. An understanding of audio-visual analogue production paths and digitisation practices is highly desirable. A background in audio-visual production and post production or relevant tertiary qualifications would also be an advantage.

The position of Preservation Metadata is responsible for carrying out duties to preserve the metadata associated with audiovisual materials held in the archives collection. The role requires a keen attention to details and a proactive approach to reporting, documenting and identifying resolutions in following up on data and/or system issues encountered.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the role you must be an Australian citizen. If you are selected, you will be required to successfully undergo a pre-employment check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a Negative Vetting 1 clearance level.
