About the role

The Deputy Director-General Group is responsible for shaping National Archives strategy, building organisational resilience, embracing technology, leading transformation, and lifting capability.

The Property and Security section is responsible for the management of a property portfolio comprising of 13 buildings across all States and Territories. The section delivers fit-for-purpose accommodation and collection storage and providing, fostering and developing a positive security culture to ensure National Archives maintains protective security obligations with the Australian Government's Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).

Under broad direction the main duties of the role include:

  • Manage National Archives’ property portfolio and support services, including lease and facilities management and procurement processes for a wide range of required property and security goods and services.
  • Ensure consistent delivery and implementation of government security advice, excluding ICT and Cyber. This includes supporting staff in the delivery of security tasks, professional development, stakeholder engagement and raising security awareness.
  • Manage and lead Business Continuity operations ensuring National Archives meets business resilience and appropriate staff understand their responsibilities in undertaking required actions.
  • Manage resource requirements, including budget development and management budgets.
  • Undertake engagement and relationship management with all business areas to achieve section/branch/organisation objectives such as capital works, facilities management and security response.
  • Support and develop staff, fostering a high-performing, inclusive and collaborative team culture.
  • Promote and apply the APS and National Archives values and contemporary people management principles and practices in diversity, workplace health and safety and participative management.
  • Implement, promote and apply the National Archives’ Vision, Mission and Commitments as expressed in Our Values.


Are you eligible?

To be eligible for the role you must be an Australian citizen. If you are selected, you will be required to successfully undergo a pre-employment check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a Negative Vetting 2 clearance level.
