Digitisation Officer

About the role

The Digitisation Services section provides leadership to the National Archives digitisation function. This includes the National Digitisation Strategy and Annual Plan, digitisation-on-demand service, Agency Digitisation Service and proactive digitisation. It excludes preservation digitisation of audio-visual and photographic formats. The Digitisation Services section is responsible for both in-house and outsourced digitisation in Canberra and providing guidance on digitisation activities to all state and territory offices.

The key duties of the position include:

  • Digitise records and process images in an accurate and timely manner including:
    • Resolving minor equipment-related issues as required;
    • Performing minor preservation tasks as required;
    • Creating digital archival and access copies of archival records and
    • Accurately entering and retrieving data from electronic records systems within established procedures and practices.
  • Perform various administrative tasks including ordering and sorting archival records; preparing basic documentation, recording statistics and correspondence.
  • Work closely and productively with team members and colleagues; participate in section meetings; actively support working relationships across the organisation; contribute to the development of processes, guidelines, section plans and activities. 
  • Undertake training in new systems, applications and equipment.
  • Undertake the physical handling, retrieval and return of archival records and other tasks as directed, ensure that Work, Health and Safety issues are identified, reported and monitored.
  • Apply the principles of APS Values, Code of Conduct, workplace diversity principles, work health and safety and participative management within a work and team environment.
  • Apply the National Archives’ Vision, Mission and Commitments as expressed in Strategy 2025–2030: Evolving National Archives and Our Values.

You must be willing and able to meet the inherent physical requirements of this role, including repetitive, sedentary, screen-based work and/or the ability to pack, sort, lift and relocate records in accordance with established work, health and safety practices and archival principles.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the role you must be an Australian citizen. If you are selected, you will be required to successfully undergo a pre-employment check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a Baseline clearance level.
