About the role

The Property and Security section delivers fit-for-purpose accommodation and collection storage and provides, fosters and develops a positive security culture to ensure National Archives maintains protective security obligations with the Australian Government's Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).

Under broad direction the main duties of the role include to:

  • Build and maintain an in-depth knowledge of facilities management functions; to develop, review, implement and ensure compliance with policies and procedures relevant to managing National Archives facilities.
  • Ensure National Archives facilities meet essential service maintenance requirements and are Work Health & Safety compliant.
  • Manage complex and high value facilities projects including refurbishment programs that impact on strategic or operational outcomes for National Archives.
  • Conduct high-level negotiations with external providers of facilities and project management services to achieve prompt, reliable, cost-effective and quality service. This includes the preparation of all necessary documentation required to tender for the provision of facilities and project management services.
  • Oversee the building emergency and control systems to ensure appropriate security, health and safety for staff, visitors and the building, including the availability to attend site during emergencies outside core business hours.
  • Deliver support services through the Business Continuity Plan, pre-employment security screening of contractors, fleet management and venue hire operations, where required.
  • Oversee staff management of the team including performance management reviews, professional development and setting work area priorities to ensure optimum performance within a team environment.
  • Build and maintain effective and professional relationships with National Archives staff, service providers, regulatory authorities, government bodies and internal and external stakeholders to achieve work area and agency goals.
  • Promote and apply the APS and National Archives values and contemporary people management principles and practices in diversity, workplace health and safety and participative management.
  • Implement, promote and apply the National Archives’ Vision, Mission and Commitments as expressed in Strategy 2025-2030: Evolving National Archives and Our Values.

To be eligible for the role you must be an Australian citizen. If you are selected, you will be required to successfully undergo a pre-employment check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a NV Level 1 clearance level.
