About the role                                                                              

Data and Digital (D&D) branch provides National Archives with systems and technology services and support. This includes managing its infrastructure, software, information and data. The branch also advises Australian government agencies about the requirements and standards set by the Archives Act 1983 and National Archives.

The Applications Integration section provides the development, deployment, integration and maintenance of National Archives’ internal and public facing applications and websites. We do this by working with business areas to deliver the products and services that support their needs.  Section responsibilities include:

  • Applications development and support (primarily .Net )
  • Website development and technical support (Drupal / GovCMS)
  • Application and Integration testing capability and services
  • Management and support of key COTS applications as used across the Archives
  • Production and maintenance of operational and technical documentation
  • Delivery of projects and activities in alignment with IT and Agency strategy and direction
  • Provision of advice and guidance on applications and business processes

Under broad direction, the main duties of the role include:

  • Develop strong, ongoing and mutually beneficial relationships with internal and external clients, stakeholders and service providers, with focus on a effective and sustainable IT service delivery culture, and current/future business needs.
  • Manage and develop an integrated view of IT application and website projects and development work stream and ensure that they align with National Archives corporate and strategic plans, including the IT technical architecture and IT strategic plans.
  • Champion the ongoing improvement of our application development and testing processes, ensuring the adoption of contemporary good practice in the delivery of those services.
  • Manage the testing and operation of our websites and other public facing applications to support the delivery of services and information to National Archives’ clients.
  • Work collaboratively with the various Data and Digital sections supporting other elements of the IT environment, including Business Engagement and Systems Operations, to effectively co-ordinate the delivery of IT applications services to all staff within the Archives and other stakeholders.
  • Actively collaborate in the development and maintenance of IT Strategic and Operational Planning, including input into agency corporate direction and innovation framework.
  • Establish and manage effective business driven IT application delivery services with adherence to contemporary good practice, whole of government regulations and policies, and related agency governance and management frameworks
  • Ensure National Archives’ applications adhere to and remain complaint with Cybersecurity standards such as the Essential 8 and PSPF, in cooperation with the Director Cybersecurity.
  • Manage, monitor and mentor section staff, manage team performance, conduct regular performance reviews, and identify development and training opportunities.
  • Provide strategic technology advice to the Chief Executive Officer and the Executive Board.
  • Apply the principles of APS Values, Code of Conduct, workplace diversity, work health and safety and participative management within a work and team environment.
  • Apply the National Archives’ Vision, Mission and Commitments as expressed in Strategy 2025–2030: Evolving National Archives and Our Values.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the role you must be an Australian citizen. If you are selected, you will be required to successfully undergo a pre-employment check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a Baseline clearance level  with potential to attain NV1.
